ART NOUVEAU. Unique objects with a tale to tell.
Discover the Art Nouveau works from the King Baudouin Foundation. Behind each of these exceptional objects is a special story.
What is it about?
On the occasion of Art Nouveau Brussels 2023, the King Baudouin Foundation is presenting some of the masterpieces from its own Art Nouveau collection. Whether a major work or an everyday object, each of the works exhibited conceals a very special story or anecdote.
Thanks to the generosity of our patrons, the Foundation has been able to acquire works by artists including Victor Horta, Philippe Wolfers, Paul Hankar and Henry van de Velde. Artists’ jewellery, furniture, sculptures and bookbinding are just some of the great diversity of pieces exhibited in various Belgian museums and brought together in this publication.
The accompanying stories, told by novelist and historian Marc Meganck, take us back in time as they lift a corner of the veil on these extraordinary objects.
This publication accompanies the exhibition ART NOUVEAU. Histoires d’objets d’exception, organised by the King Baudouin Foundation at the BELvue Museum from 7 June 2023 to 7 January 2024. The Year of Art Nouveau is an occasion to highlight this key period of Belgian heritage.
