How the procedure works

Applying for a grant for your project: step by step.

Are you a private individual or organisation in Belgium or another country seeking (financial) support for a project in the public interest?

Respond to one of our calls for projects. In this guide we will explain the procedure step by step, from searching for a call for projects to implementation of your project.

Make sure you leave plenty of time! On average, obtaining a grant will take 17 hours of working time: this includes six hours to submit the application form and eleven hours for follow up after you receive the grant (administration, accounting and reporting). Applications for the smallest grants can be completed more quickly.

Support for your project in five steps

1. Search for a call for projects

Each year we launch more than 150 calls for projects. Find a call for projects that matches the specific character of your project. Make sure your project meets the selection criteria for the call for projects.

2. Submit an application form

Once you have found a call for project that matches your project: submit your application form online. You cannot send your application form by e-mail or by post.

  1. On the call for projects page, click on ‘Submit your application’.

  2. Connect to your account via https://candidate.kbs-frb.be, or create an account if you are applying for the first time.

  3. Complete the online application (you can visit to work on it as many times as you wish).

  4. Once your application is complete, you can submit the form.

  5. You will receive a confirmation by e-mail, together with your application as a PDF document.

3. The selection process

For each call, a jury or management committee made up of independent experts will evaluate the projects that are submitted. You will receive an e-mail to let you know whether or not your project has been selected.

4. Implementation and evaluation

Congratulations … your project has been selected! You will need to send us an interim report and/or a final report to certify implementation of your project, as set out in the agreement that you will have signed. We will also evaluate the process and the impact of the projects so that we can learn from them.

5. Communication

You are our best ambassador! Feel free to talk about your project to those close to you, using social media or other media. Tell them how your project has made a difference and how it could inspire others. Take part in our annual photo competition, which is an opportunity to receive extra support for your project.
