The devastating weather over the past few weeks in Belgium has taken a heavy toll in terms of human lives and material damage. Stories and images of flood victims touch us all. The requests to help are numerous. The King Baudouin Foundation is pleased to contribute its resources, know-how and networks to strengthen citizens' solidarity with fellow citizens, especially for organisations working with vulnerable people.
After the floods, the Red Cross immediately went into action, collecting donations (account number BE70 0000 0000 2525) and coordinating the actions of volunteers.
Emergency humanitarian relief is not the KBF's core activity, but we too want to do our bit and help. In the medium term, we are considering how we can work with local authorities and players in the field to ensure a more structured approach to local needs. In the meantime, the KBF is making its philanthropic formulas available more than ever to local authorities, associations and schools that want to help rebuild their neighbourhood, village, town or region. In this way, we can facilitate local solidarity that results in targeted projects: the reconstruction of a playground, the re-opening of a community centre, school equipment, etc.
Several Funds managed by the KBF are already in action: our Regional Funds in Limburg and Ostbelgien, Corporate Funds, as well as Named Funds.
