Ntokou Pikounda National Park (NPNP ) is comprised of forests and swamps, and part of the Central Congo Basin Peatlands.

NPNP hosts high densities of western lowland gorillas, central chimpanzees, forest elephants, and hippopotamuses. The Ntokou and Pikounda districts (and the wider park periphery) contain approximately 8,000 people (incl. 400-500 Indigenous People).

Following a co-management agreement with the Congolese government in 2017, WWF’s 2030 vision is that the NPNP and surrounding forests provide a safe home to healthy populations of forest elephants, great apes, hippos, and a wealth of biodiversity, and communities are financially sustainable. The project supports the participatory resource mapping exercise by communities – a prerequisite to inclusive zoning of the park and operation of multi-stakeholder platform, including development of priority actions for improving local well-being and an essential part of the governance of the park.
