Urgence Identité Afrique (Fonds)
Promote a culture of systematic birth registration in sub-Saharan Africa among parents, local authorities and the State.
What is it about?
Phantoms, invisible, paperless, without status – these are the qualifiers often used to describe children who do not have legal existence because they have not been declared or legally registered at birth.
Deprived of a formal identity and therefore of legal existence and of a verifiable nationality, there are hundreds of millions of people in the world in this situation. They have no solid legal, political or economic existence, for lack of an irrefutable, official civil status.
The objective of the Urgence Identité Afrique (UIAfrica) Fund is to increase the number of birth registrations at the civil registry in Africa. Its mission: create a culture of birth registration at the civil registry shared by all stakeholders: from parents to the State.
This mission is part of the Sustainable Development Goals. Objective 16, Target 9 states “By 2030, ensure legal identity for all, in particular through birth registration”.
